This animation finds its roots in my dream journal. The journal itself gracefully surfaces in the animation's concluding moments. The capturing of movement involves the skillful use of stop-motion animation and Dragon Frame.
Concealed within the reef, various dreams come to life. Jugs, scuba gear, and menacing webs, all modeled based on vivid dream recollections, add a surreal dimension to the scene. Explore this underwater dreamscape where each element narrates a unique story, inviting you into the depths of my subconscious imagination.
Dream Fueled AI Inspiration: In my creative process, I utilized AI by inputting dream journal excerpts, prompting it to generate an image of a coral reef in a large tin room. Though the AI's output diverged, it inspired the idea, "A Coral Reef in Your Pocket." Departing from the AI's tin box concept, I modelled a wooden jewelry box from my childhood, showcasing the dynamic synergy between human cr
I began bringing my vision to life. I modeled all the different parts in Maya—the coral, the box, the hidden gems. I employed stop-motion animation with my dream journal, flipping through its pages as a walk through the inspiration for the film itself. Pretty Meta, right? Once the 3D animation concluded, I transitioned to rotoscoping the spinning coral reef in 2D animation. To cap it off, a final classic 2D animation depicted water encapsulating the journal.
This short film invites diverse interpretations, but, to me, it's a subconscious plea for a fuller, more positive life. It urges us to let go of the past and move forward. If we remain perpetually bound to the past, we'll only be left with replications of the once beautiful things we had, tucked away in our pockets.
